The sacral problems are very common in the majority of people because they are often accompanied by back pain. The pains can be disturbing and prevent the accomplishment of daily tasks. Pain in the sacral spine is not only caused by mechanical causes, it can also have another meaning.

Sacrum pain and emotional and spiritual significance : we are talking about it.

Sacrum anatomy

Le sacred takes the form of a triangular bone plate, located at the base of the spine (enter here lumbar spine and tailbone). It is made up of 5 vertebrae sacred which are merged.

It is attached at the level of the fifth vertebrate lumbar to form a lumbosacral joint. This is where the movements occur. It also forms part of the posterior wall of the pelvis and attaches with the iliac bone giving rise to thesacroiliac joint. And with the coccyx it forms thesacrococcygeal joint.

The sacrum has foramina or holes through which some nerve fibers come out. These coins provide sensory and motor functions of the lower limbs and certain organs (kidneys). Indeed, the sacrum is linked to several muscles: the gluteus maximus, the iliac and the piriformis.

With regard to its functions, the sacrum serves to support the weight of the upper body and distribute it to the rest. The muscles attached to it provide stability to the body while the sacral canal protects the spinal nerves.

Common causes of sacrum pain

Pain in the sacral spine can have several causes.

  • A pain in the lower back: Pain felt in the lower back usually radiates to related areas. Most often it suggests a pinched nerve as in the case of sciatica or cruralgia. However, it can also come from the irritation of an area of the lumbar region itself.
  • A coccyx pain: as a reminder, the coccyx is attached to the lower part of the sacrum. Thus pain that reaches the coccyx can naturally radiate to the sacrum.
  • A trauma: fall, collision, blow, stress fracture… All of them can cause pain when they directly affect the sacrum or the regions around it.
  • A bedsore : circulatory disorders such as iliac venous thrombophlebitis or pelvic varices also have impacts on the related parts. Pressure sore in the sacrum for example, matches this problem. It affects the elderly, bedridden people and those in wheelchairs. This condition refers to a deep wound located in the sacrum that damages the tissues. It occurs when the tissues attached to this triangular bone lack oxygen and contract. This causes vasoconstriction and causes the blood to not circulate properly.
  • Prolonged static positions: Prolonged sitting and lying positions generate strong pressure on the sacrum, especially if we use equipment that does not comply with our physical condition. This is what sometimes promotes the pain. Moreover, in these conditions, we remain inactive and the joints become stiff.
  • Malfunction of the sacroiliac joint.

Sacrum pain: what emotional and spiritual significance?

According to some sources, emotional factors are also involved in the appearance of pain in the sacrum. It can be anxiety, moodiness, lack of an active social life, guilt, disrespect for the body.

The impacts of our emotions on the sacred column

As we already know, the spine is an important pillar of the body since it supports most of the weight. From this point of view, it is also considered in some way as the center of vitality and resistance of the body. Thus, any negative emotions that impact us can also directly affect the back. Moreover, many scientific articles talk about it.

For pain in the sacrum, it is said to be related to an unresolved problem, which causes shocks emotional

Feelings of control, the absence of communication cause frustration and inflict tension in the sacred tissues to form knots. These will disrupt the autonomic nervous system (or autonomic nervous system) which controls the organs.

When the person gets stuck on a problem that he needs to solve, it causes him emotional distress. Immersed in worries, the individual cannot manage them and indulges in panic, anger and frustration (anxiety).

These emotional disorders impact the sacral vertebrae S1, S2, S3. The latter react to this feeling of rigidity and narrow-mindedness and are directly affected by it.

Pain or problems located at the level of the sacrum S4, S5 for example, can be explained by a lack of communication in sexuality.

Also, the sacrum is connected to the kidneys which are organs that serve to filter the blood in order to preserve internal balance, a sign of individual wisdom. The kidneys are considered to be a reservoir of vital energy which influences relations with the environment. At the slightest malfunction of this energy chakra, painful symptoms can then appear in the region of the sacrum.

Affective relationships which do not unfold as desired are also bad signs for the sacrum. It can mean that the person is under the influence of someone or something and cannot get rid of it.

The psychological influence can find its source in the devaluation of the parent-child relationship (a depressing situation). This grip causes a blockage in the sacrum and generates pain.

Sacred pain and spiritual connection

Symbolically, the sacrum is a representative part of a key, as it is where the wings of the iliacs fit.

When it comes to our emotional state, it turns out that this part of the spine is the control center for various needs :

  • love;
  • sexuality;
  • protection ;
  • survival (food, clothing, shelter)…

Because of our religious and moral principles, some of these needs are sometimes repressed, especially sexuality. However, for example, this act generally serves as communication for people in a relationship. The fact of being deprived of it can then generate negative emotions such as helplessness which, subsequently, leads to guilt, anger, depression, stress and sometimes even fear. It is the same for the other types of needs that we feel.

If we refer well to this link between the sacrum and our emotions, we can therefore understand that the deprivations to do what one wishes can be at the origin of the dysfunctions on the vertebrae S4 and S5. Where does the pain come from?

What to do ?

For elucidate the problems that cause pain in the sacrum, the causative disease must be treated.

Here, it is generally a question of carrying out a awareness of emotional factors or negative vibes which disrupt the vegetative nervous system. We must find ways to get rid of emotional shocks and optimize physical, verbal and sexual communication.

It is also important to prioritize problem solving and get rid of hold-ups.

For the well-being of the sacrum, it is necessary avoid inflicting feelings of guilt.

  • Omega-3s : Omega-3 are polyunsaturated fatty acids that play a very important role in the functioning of our body. They are provided by food in three natural forms: docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), alpha linolenic acid (ALA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Beyond their action on the brain and the cardiovascular system, omega-3s prove very effective against inflammation. Indeed, they have the ability to act on the inflammatory mechanisms in osteoarthritis by slowing down cartilage destruction, thus they reduce the intensity of osteoarthritis pain. Sciatica, being most often linked to an inflammation secondary to a herniated disc, it can also respond to omega-3 provided it is consumed regularly.
